Iannetta Powers Rockies

The 4-game losing streak of the Colorado Rockies is over.  Thank you Chris Iannetta and the New York Mets!  Three singles were all the line-up, other than Iannetta, could produce.  The Rockies' catcher doubled in the 5th to lead off, and scored when Dexter Fowler grounded a two-out single through the hole between third and short.  The Mets tied the score in the 6th when Carlos Beltran, one of the 6 walks issued by Rockies' starter Jhoulis Chacin, came around to score after a one-out single by Mets first-baseman Ike Davis pushed Beltran to third, and left-fielder Jason Bay chopped a bouncer to Rockies third sacker, Ian Stewart, who threw wide to first, allowing Bay to reach and Beltran to score.  To be fair, the run would have scored even had Stewart made an accurate throw, but the play was indicative of Stewart's continuing struggles this season.  Stewart is 3 for 41 this season (two singles and one double, one RBI), with 17 strikeouts.  Patience has to be wearing thin for the 5th year player, and Manager Jim Tracy even said as much yesterday in San Francisco, that it's time to "fish, or cut bait."  The next time Chris Iannetta came to bat, in the 7th, he crushed a Chris Capuano pitch on a line, barely clearing the left-field wall and two feet inside the foul pole.  Matt Belisle got the win, as the pitcher who finished the 7th inning, Rafael Betancourt pitched a 1-2-3 eighth (with two really long fly-outs), and Huston Street picked up the save, giving up a single to pinch-hitter Willie Harris, who was then erased by a superb throw from that guy again, Chris Iannetta, attempting to steal second.

Another strong outing from a Rockies starter, continuing struggles from the middle of the batting order, this time a bullpen that held up in the end.  Good to have the losing streak over.  As bad as the team has performed offensively over the last 15 games (the last time we got Taco Bell was April 20), the Rocks have been in first place for all 39 days of the 2011 season, so cheer up Rockies fans, things could be worse (Lakers are on vacation).

The Rockies need to continue beating up on the Mets, and then the Padres this weekend.  Then, an opportunity to make a statement with two games against the conquering Giants on Monday and Tuesday.  It looks like the Rox may get lucky and miss Tim Lincecum, so maybe, just maybe, we can get some payback on Bumgarner and Vogelsong here at Coors Field.  But, first things first........how about a two-game winning streak, for now.
